A copy editing error changed the meaning of a letter (1) in the October issue. The fourth sentence in the third paragraph should read: "Only 4 of 19 candidate variables were so identified (malaise, ascites, serum bilirubin, the physician's estimate of outcome), and a prediction model based on them correctly classified 84% of the patients."
