After a gap of over 10 years there is a certain pleasure in seeing the publication of this new edition, a staple in the diet of many hematologists until the late 1970s. The authors are again from the faculty of the University of Virginia School of Medicine, although Dr. Smith is now at the Medical College of Wisconsin. The intent is to continue to "provide a readable, concise, but comprehensive presentation of clinical hematology that will help students, residents and practicing physicians keep up with increasing demands for self study."
