Remains an incredibly detailed but compact guide to interpreting and treating a wide range of serious to minor clinical problems. Many chapters have been heavily revised. The most notable new section is that on the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. The Manual could be compacted even more if it were to give up coverage of topics such as pathophysiologic mechanisms not directly relevant to clinical decisions. If all physicians were to practice medicine with the procedures and standards set forth in this manual, the quality of care throughout the United States would be substantially higher.
