It is difficult to imagine a field more interesting than infectious diseases of the nervous system. The stakes are higher than for many other infections, with errors of diagnosis and treatment often associated with high mortality and neurologic morbidity. This book succeeds in reviewing important advances of the last 10 years. However, some chapters, such as the one on fungal diseases, seem parochial, and some topics are touched on lightly or not at all. For example, the commoner parasitic infections, such as malaria, cysticercosis, and toxoplasmosis, are nicely covered, but other parasitic diseases that affect the nervous system such as
