The series Contemporary Issues in Pulmonary Disease now includes this new fifth volume. This is appropriate because sleeping disorders constitute a major contemporary issue. It is not that sleeping disorders are new, but rather have aroused attention for only a short time.
The authors are recognized authorities in the field of respiratory physiology and medicine, or in the biology of sleep in health and disease. The book begins with an historical chapter that is most interesting; I did not know that so much had been said about sleep for so long and by so many. It is a wonder that
