To the editor: Dr. Buckman's review ( 1 ) of Dr. Kannan's textbook, Essential Endocrinology: A Primer for Nonspecialists, ( 1 ) should not go unanswered.
Most if not all multiauthored textbooks on endocrinology deservedly gather dust on library shelves. They do so because in all too many instances the expert contributors are either too far removed from clinical medicine to make their contributions intelligible and relevant or, alternatively, they are too busy and delegate the actual writing to a junior colleague.
