More than with any other aspect of diabetes, aggressive "tight" blood glucose control has been shown to correlate directly with outcome of pregnancy and childbirth for a woman with diabetes. Recent advances have been made in understanding the relationship of hyperglycemia and adverse outcomes, as well as in managing diabetes and monitoring pregnancy. Because several disciplines are involved, these developments are published in a wide range of journals. Consequently, the publication of a book compiling this information is timely and useful.
