Lupus seems to be coming of age. The previous comprehensive textbook on the subject, edited by the late Dr. Edmund Dubois, had 19 contributors, but most was written by Dr. Dubois himself and represented his extensive personal experience. We have entered a new era, and a comprehensive textbook on systemic lupus erythematosus must draw on various contributors spanning immunology, genetics, pharmacology, hematology, nephrology, and other fields.
Dr. Lahita and many of the 52 contributors were students or colleagues of the late Dr. Henry Kunkel, to whom this book is dedicated. Dr. Kunkel's influence is apparent in the thoroughness with which
