Gastrointestinal research is a rapidly growing field. The digestive system is no longer a simple, hollow viscus but has diverse and complicated functions. We had been waiting for a good reference on the gastrointestinal physiology since the American Physiological Society published its Handbook series in 1967. In 1981, the first edition of this book met with great enthusiasm and success. In this second edition, the same editors have revised the contents to show the progress made in the past 6 years.
