To the editor: I appreciate the critical review of my book, The International Textbook Of Cardiology, by Dr. Franch (1). However, I take issue with his remark that ". . . clinical laboratory data are not expressed in le Systeme International d'Unités (SI units) nor are SI units given parenthetically with conventional values."
I should point out that in the sixth edition of The Heart by Hurst, Dr. Franch did not use the SI units in his chapter on techniques of cardiac catheterization. For example, hemoglobin was still expressed in the metric unit of g% (which should be g/dL),
