To the editor: Table 2 in the report by Mackowiak and Le-Maistre (1) on drug fever incorrectly shows triamterene as a drug used for its effects on the central nervous system; it is a diuretic. I am interested in the absence of thiazide diuretics and hydroxine from the list. Thiazide diuretics share structural similarities with sulfonamide. Was the triamterene used alone or in combination with thiazide? As for hydroxyzine, I have found it to be the cause of more than six cases of fever of unknown origin in my own practice when given intramuscularly.
