To the editor: The article by Howell on American cardiology (1) contained serious inaccuracies about the role pediatric cardiology plays as a subspecialty in pediatric care today.
Pediatric cardiology is an active and important subspecialty field in pediatrics. The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) has had a Section on Pediatric Cardiology since 1957. The section currently has 450 members. Membership in the section requires that the physician pass the sub-boards in pediatric cardiology given by the American Board of Pediatrics. As of 1986, 747 persons have passed the sub-boards. The section meeting, held annually in conjunction with the AAP Fall
