A broad, mature look at all of the elements that form the patient-doctor relation and how the physician should work within them: the nature of disease and illness, concepts of "causes," full assessment of patients' problems and views, and treatment in its fullest sense. Merits close reading by medical students entering their clinical training, by residents, and by physicians who expect to learn about themselves up to the day they put away the stethescope.
