To the Editor: I would like to congratulate L'Abbé and colleagues (1) on their fine review on meta-analysis. Although meta-analysis may have weaknesses (1,2), it is a useful technique for the analysis of analyses, or the study of studies. However, I would like to point out a few minor errors in their article.
On page 228, the authors state, "For proportions, for example, a chi-squared test of consistency, or homogeneity, as reported by Mantel and Haenszel (24) can be used." The chi-squared test of homogeneity was not described in the paper by Mantel and Haenszel (3). It can be found
