In 1981 six Harvard internists joined a Harvard-sponsored program to learn about alcoholism so they could teach others about the disease. They ran into a problem: There was no one to tell them what to teach. So they taught themselves, talking to patients, alcoholism counselors, and some unidentified experts. This book is an outgrowth of the program. Of the original six, five contributed chapters. All remain instructors at Harvard, apparently not the best place to move up the ladder if you show an interest in alcoholism.
