The purpose of buying a textbook of internal medicine is different for each owner. For some, it is the quickest method to obtain a list of classic references. For others, the book represents an easy way to review a rarely thought of topic. One main goal of this text, as stated in the preface, is to "permit a generalist or a subspecialist to look up a patients' problem at his or her level of understanding." This goal is clearly accomplished.
