There are approximately 80 000 chemicals and other substances used commercially in the United States with perhaps 2000 more added each year. Each of them is potentially toxic. Workers at chemical plants, factories, construction sites, offices, hospitals, farms, mines, and dozens of other worksites are exposed to them every day. These authors have selected the 400 commonest substances and prepared concise summaries of each.
There are several guides and texts that summarize the toxicology of these substances, but this handbook is the most up to date. The first edition appeared in 1978 and has been widely used for the past
