A broad survey of the main online information resources relevant to clinical and research medicine, with details of their contents and search methods: Compuserve; The National Library of Medicine's MEDLINE, and other MEDLARS databases (with attention to Grateful Med, the Library's low-cost, easy-access search program); PaperChase (a proprietary gateway to MEDLINE); the DIALOG databases; BRS/Colleague; MEDIS; and AMA/NET. Some description of the technical basis for online searching. Not likely to be an adequate introduction for computer-naive physicians, but should be helpful to those already comfortable with using a microcomputer for communications. (EJH)
