The first edition of this highly regarded gastrointestinal textbook was published 15 years ago, and major changes have been seen in the field since then. Once again, the editors have provided a current and authoritative textbook. This fourth edition represents gastroenterology as understood and practiced in 1988. Though slightly longer than the previous edition, it contains substantial revised information. Seven new chapters, including ones on the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), aging, and biliary tract endoscopy have been added.
