To the Editor: We wish to compliment Dr. Eddy (1) on his thoughtful review and evaluation of the lung cancer screening programs that we and others have carried out. However, we come to somewhat different conclusions based on our own analysis of our data.
The results of the sputum cytology and chest roentgenogram screening for early lung cancer, derived from the three National Cancer Institute (NCI) supported studies to which Dr. Eddy refers, are not easily amenable to analysis.
