An editorial (1) in The Lancet reports that an article in the International Journal of Systematic Bacteriology (2) proposes a new taxonomic name, Helicobacter pylori, for the organism that has been known as Campylobacter pylori. The publication in this taxonomic journal establishes the new name as the correct name. Persons interested in the structural and chemical studies behind the new genus designation can find them succinctly reviewed, with the relevant citations, in the Lancet editorial.
We ask that authors submitting papers to us with reference to Campylobacter pylori use the new name. We also ask, however, that after the first
