Physicians should know how patients see and feel their illnesses and injuries. These accounts by 14 children, ages 8 to 16, give clear and moving pictures of what it means to a patient to adjust to paraplegia, to epilepsy, to cancer, to other major problems. These should be required reading for medical students and house officers, but even experienced physicians could gain some valuable insights. (EJH)
