Dr. Swinscow is probably known to few North Americans save as the author of Statistics at Square One, a clear primer expected to appear in its second edition in mid-1990. Here he conveys in relaxed and fluent prose his years of pleasure in traveling the world as an amateur (but highly competent) botanist. His pages on his years at the British Medical Journal sketch an engaging picture of life in a major editorial office and of his eminent, longtime associate, Hugh Clegg. (EJH)
