To the Editor: The American College of Physicians position paper on parental leave for residents (15 December 1989) (1) appropriately calls attention to the desirability of residency programs having stated policies on this issue. At the University of Utah, we have had such policies for several years and have altered postdelivery schedules, switching mothers to less stressful and lighter rotations. Although we agree with the discussion and direction of the position paper, it omits another side of the story.
