To the Editor: I am currently in the third and final year of internal medicine residency and read Lipkin and colleagues' article (1) about the practice of primary care internal medicine with great interest. Fortunately, my training has provided substantial experience with both traditional inpatient medicine and longitudinal outpatient practice; thus, I feel comfortable in both roles.
Having spent the last year looking at practice opportunities in internal medicine, I agree with Lipkin and colleagues that much of the medical community seems to be ignorant about primary care internal medicine. Most of the physician recruiters and medical directors with whom
