Of these three new texts, the first, Basic and Clinical Biostatistics, comes the closest to being a truly comprehensive survey of statistical concepts and their applications in clinical medicine. It speaks mainly to readers who are concerned with proper study design and data analysis, but it offers a view of medical information that should be helpful to all clinicians who wish to be able to judge medical evidence critically; for such readers, the especially valuable chapters will be those on study design, evaluating diagnostic procedures, and reading the medical literature.
