Among the many weaknesses of contemporary medical education, the worst may be inadequacies in the teaching of history-taking, of skills in dialogue in clinical encounters, and of the effect communicating of medical information to patients. This problem is being attacked by many teachers in general internal medicine, notably members of the Society of General Medicine, and several good texts have already come from them.
