Remains a classic, comprehensive, one-volume (quite fat) textbook of internal medicine. Attractively balances the conceptual basis in biochemistry and physiology for diagnostic interpretation and therapeutic decision with the practical need to know how to proceed in practice. The neurology section's focus on neurologic aspects of lung, bowel, and liver hematologic disease and the closing section, with chapters on occupational health, substance abuse, pregnancy, geriatric problems, the periodic health examination, and preoperative evaluation, enhance this text's value for the general internist.
