It is generally recognized that those seeking to develop effective new therapeutic regimens for cancer must understand and exploit the mechanisms of action and pharmacologic properties of the agents to be used. Chabner and Collins have addressed this issue in their careful selection of authors, who, without exception, have provided in their individual chapters comprehensive information about each group of drugs. The book will be extremely valuable to those designing new protocols. However, it will not satisfy the need of the clinician seeking guidance in the management of a specific cancer or in the proper dosage of a specific drug.
