Strom's 1987 review article, "The Promise of Pharmacoepidemiology," is now a full volume. As in most multiauthored books, writing style varies from chapter to chapter, and some chapters overlap in content. It is, nonetheless, a delight to circumnavigate these minor problems and enjoy the pearls that appear throughout the book.
In particular, the four consecutive chapters representing academic, industrial, regulatory, and legal viewpoints could form a stand-alone introduction to pharmacoepidemiology. Stolley discusses the training needs and hazards of an academic career in this field; Sachs and Dieck present a relatively unbiased overview and admission of the importance of pharmacoepidemiology to
