A broad and detailed look at many topics relevant to the role of aluminum in renal disease: chemistry, intestinal absorption, metabolism, known or potential roles in osteopathy, Alzheimer disease, occupational disease, encephalopathy. Four chapters focus on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of aluminum toxicity. The opening chapter is a short chronologic historical review of aluminum's place in human disease, running from early public awareness to the explosive growth of knowledge about aluminum in the past two decades.
