Students intimidated by the huge major textbooks of internal medicine will probably find this relatively short book helpful in focusing on the essentials. The text is organized by subdisciplines (cardiology, endocrinology, geriatric medicine, and so on), not by disease presentation, and the introductory chapter on aspects of practice shared by all fields is short for its scope. Each chapter closes with a self-quiz and highly selective references.
