A detailed text that, although truly a thorough guide for the clinician, is firmly based on the pathophysiologic foundations for diagnosis and treatment. In addition to the expected text on monitoring, problems of specific systems (such as ventilatory problems, renal dysfunction) and particular syndromes (such as hypertension, sepsis), there are chapters on ethical questions and computer applications. Each chapter closes with selected references. The appendixes cover abbreviations, normal values, nomograms, formulas, and conversion factors.
