Controversies abound in thyroidology, with different diagnostic and therapeutic approaches to anatomic and functional thyroid abnormalities championed by various groups of physicians. Textbooks on thyroid disease traditionally have been dominated by either a surgical or medical approach. Falk has endeavored to provide a comprehensive treatise on thyroidology, with contributions from surgeons, endocrinologists, radiologists, pathologists, and ophthalmologists.
Unfortunately, internists and endocrinologists may be disappointed by the result. Chapters on thyroid physiology and pathophysiology and calcium homeostasis are incomplete.
