This volume, the first in the series Current Topics in Cardiology, was intended to provide a comprehensive, detailed overview of acute myocardial infarction in the current era. Both the series editor, Dr. Rahimtoola, and the volume editor, Dr. Gersh, are cardiovascular polymaths, a species in decline due to the pressures of subspecialization. The goal they set was formidable because large clinical trials that answer fundamental questions and that define optimal therapy for myocardial infarction are being reported at a dizzying rate. No book on this topic can be up-to-date.
