Keeping up with new editions of the two major texts on the kidney is akin to attending a long and intense tennis match. Look to the right—there is "Brenner and Rector"; look to the left—there is Diseases of The Kidney" (Boston: Little Brown; 1963); look to the right again—there is another edition of "Brenner and Rector"; and so on. Is the fourth edition of The Kidney simply another stroke in the match? Emphatically not: This edition is by far the best of the four.
