Bartlett's pocket manual offers detailed outlines on use of antimicrobial agents (with special attention to various classes of potential problems, such as use in renal failure or liver disease, drug interactions, adverse effects); preventive treatment (immunizations, prophylaxis); treatment of nonbacterial infections (tuberculosis, viral and fungal infections); and treatment of specific groups of infections (AIDS, regional infections, Lyme disease). Reproduces some Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report and Medical Letter recommendations. Nelson's manual has much the same character but includes information, such as dose adjustments, not covered by Bartlett and highly relevant to pediatric practice.
