To the Editors: I read with great regret the responses to Dr. Lettau's humorous piece on "Lime Disease" (1). I am continually disappointed by the lack of humor and lack of cynicism of American physicians. Physicians take their patients and themselves too seriously. In the case of chronic fatigue syndromes (as with other mysterious maladies) the best course is for physician and patient to be able to say "I don't know."
