Disorders of the hair and nails are among the most common problems encountered not only by dermatologists but also by primary care physicians and other specialists. These changes may be isolated findings of cosmetic and functional interest to the patients and physicians or may represent stigmata of clinically significant systemic disorders. Thus, a sufficient understanding of the clinical pictures and the pathogenetic mechanisms of hair and nail abnormalities seems essential in clinical practice.
