The literature on AIDS is as staggeringly large as the disease is ominous in its dimensions. The enormous size of the enterprise focused on biologic, clinical, and social aspects of the problem is clear from the size of the International Congresses devoted to AIDS. Can any one attendee extract from one of the congresses enough to get a firm grasp on even a limited part of the problem? This publication offers a detailed synopsis. Individual articles are not identified bibliographically, but references to the names of speakers are appropriately placed in a generally clear and well-integrated synoptic text. Appendixes give
