To the editor: We wish to report the first fatal cases of the acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS) in France in two patients with severe hemophilia A who were treated with factor VIII concentrate from foreign and French suppliers. The two patients had opportunistic infection and a pronounced defect in cell-mediated immunity: a marked decrease of T4 lymphocytes (101 and 79/mm3, respectively) with a depressed helper (T4)/suppressor (T8) ratio (0. 2 and 0.5, respectively).
