Low flow to the heart.
Cardiac insufficiency brings
A clenched fist to the chest
Diaphoresis, nausea, vomiting
And a sense of impending doom.
This is worse
In cold weather or
After eating a large meal.
It seems not to be pain exactly, but
More a dull pressure, like homesickness.
An emptiness that fails to fill and
Won't allow itself to be forgotten.
Swelling of the brain.
The oatmeal of cerebral cortex oozes
against the ceramic bowl of the skull
And spills over into agony.
