Dr. Farmakiotis's thoughtful letter reminds us about other infectious consequences of obesity, particularly moderate to severe obesity (body mass index ≥35 kg/m2), that should concern internal medicine physicians. As with other body systems, physical factors (immobility) and biochemical factors (impaired function of the immune system) increase the risk for these complications.
