My life changed in an instant.
I was in my second week of internal medicine residency at the University of California, Davis, School of Medicine. It was a relatively easy outpatient ambulatory month. On that fateful, sunny Friday in July 2007, I laced up my Asics shoes for my morning run. From my studio apartment, I set out down Freeport Boulevard at a good pace.
I don't remember the car that hit me.
I awoke from the coma after 1 month in the neurosurgical ICU. Confused, I opened my eyes, could not get oriented, then recognized my family. My parents told me what had happened.
