This statement is a revision of the 1977 statement from the Immunization Practices Advisory Committee, Centers for Disease Control, on diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis. The epidemiology of these diseases, a description of the available immunobiologic preparations, the appropriate immunization schedules, and precautions or contraindications to vaccine use are reviewed. No major changes in immunization policy are recommended.
