A method for the continuous recording of gastric pH in situ was recently described1, 2 and utilized in providing continuous pH recordings in vivo (dogs) and in vitro. Sodium bicarbonate, Sippy A powders, magnesium trisilicate, magnesium superoxol, and aluminum hydroxide were tested.3 The present communication deals with titrations in vitro and in the human stomach of these and other antacids commonly used in ulcer therapy.
In Vitro. Thirty c.c. of 0.1 normal hydrochloric acid and 70 c.c. of distilled water were placed in a beaker to represent the fasting contents (pH 1.4) of a hyperchlorhydric human stomach.
