Since the advent of cholecystography numerous communications have appeared directing attention to the toxicity, as well as to the hepatic and renal lesions which have been attributed to the dye, (tetraiodophenolphthalein) utilized in visualizing the gall bladder. Graham and Cole, (1) as well as Ottenburg and Abramson, (2) were able to produce lesions in the liver and kidneys following injections of large amounts of the dye intravenously in animals. Rosenau (3) also points to the clinical and experimental work as indicating the possibility of liver damage following these injections, and cautions that these forms of dyes should be employed cautiously
