During recent years there have been numerous studies of the insane centering about the relationship of bodily habitus to mental disturbance. Kretschmer and other investigators have undertaken to show that there is a marked correspondence between the various forms of physical development and mental disturbance. He specifically contends that the pyknic habitus is characteristically associated with manicdepressive psychosis, while the athletic and asthenic types of habitus are clearly associated with the schizophrenic forms of insanity.
