The present volume is a memoir on the human heart. It was originally intended that Part III of Volume IV of the present edition should embrace the whole subject of angiology. On mature consideration, however, it was decided that there was not sufficient new material concerning the arteries and veins as to warrant this. Matters were different as far as the heart is concerned, as much new work has been done on the anatomy of the heart, and in certain of its aspects the subject is of importance to the physician as well as to the anatomist.
