Four cases of psittacosis, all employees of a department store employing 500-600 persons, were reported by 3 physicians, 1 physician reporting 2 cases. It was learned on visiting these cases, that a number of other employees were ill at the time with apparently similar symptoms. Most of these were employed on the floor on which parrots were kept. Twenty-five employees were absent from work for periods of four weeks or longer. The onset of their illness occurred between December 14 and January 13.
